As their name gives away, our new beef supplier hails from the Taupo region, and they are all about farming in an environmentally sustainable way. Taupo Beef, fronted by Mike and Sharon Barton, provide free-range, grass-fed, hormone free beef. They farm with a strict limit on the level of nitrogen that enters the water and soil which helps to maintain Lake Taupo’s crystal clear waters that us Kiwi’s enjoy so much.
Taupo Beef have been named the overall winner of the 2015 Sustainable Business Network Awards, winning both the Restorative Impact Award and the Supreme Award for the business making the Greatest Contribution to a Sustainable New Zealand. In the 2014 Queens Birthday Honours Mike was awarded a QSM for services to farming and the environment.
To ensure they don’t exceed nitrogen limits in the area there is a cap on the number of livestock they have on the farm, but this means their mouth-watering, mother-earth loving meat is in hot demand with a limited supply. To try keep up with this demand, Taupo Beef have welcomed several other farmers on board, including the Truebridge family farm, Kelvin and Denise Martin and the Cooper Family Farm.
So it is with open arms and hungry bellies we welcome Taupo Beef!
