Our favourite NZ one day walks

New Zealand sure does have some amazing walks! Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy the beautiful sights, while being active and working up a sweat.

We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite one day walks – get out there and give them a go!

Te Henga Walkway:

The Te Henga Walkway runs between Bethells and Muriwai Beaches on the west coast of Auckland. A stunning ridge track with epic views, the beauty of this walk is that you can make it as long or short as you like.

Rangitoto Summit:

Walk up this volcano to get incredible views of the Waitemata harbour! Just a short ferry ride from Auckland CBD, Rangitoto makes a great day trip.

Tongariro Alpine Crossing:

An NZ classic, this stunning track feels like walking on the moon at times as you traverse the volcanic landscape. The highlight would have to be the incredible Emerald Lakes!

The Pinnacles:

This challenging walk just out of Thames requires a decent level of fitness as you climb (literally at times) up a steep, scenic, rugged path. The walk follows an original packhorse track developed in the 1900s to the Pinnacles Hut, and then on to the peak.

Roys Peak Track:

Surely the best views in the whole country, this track is truly stunning. After a few hours of zig zagging up the mountainside, walkers are rewarded with views over Lake Wanaka and Mount Aspiring. Start this one as early as possible, as there’s no shade at all it gets hot!
