Homemade Apple Crumble

You can't go wrong with apple crumble! Freshly stewed apples topped with crispy, buttery crumble. This pudding is comfort food at its best. If you're lucky enough to have leftovers, warm them in the microwave and serve with yogurt, to make a warming breakfast.

STEWED APPLES
4 apples, peeled, core removed and diced 1cm
2 tablespoons brown sugar
½ cup water
1 tablespoon butter

CRUMBLE TOPPING
¼ cup soft brown sugar
¾ cup quick cook oats
¼ cup ground almonds
½ cup coconut thread
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground ginger
50g chilled butter

TO SERVE
Natural yoghurt (optional)

 

PREHEAT oven to 180°C.

1. Place apples, sugar, water and butter in a medium pot on medium heat. Simmer for about 5 minutes, or until apples are soft. Transfer to an oven-proof dish.

2. Combine all crumble ingredients in a bowl. Use your fingers to rub ingredients together until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

3. Sprinkle crumble topping evenly over stewed apples.

4. Bake on a tray to catch any spills, for 10–15 minutes, or until crumble topping is golden.

TO SERVE, spoon crumble into bowls and serve with yoghurt (if desired).
