A Relationship Meant to Bean

Here at My Food Bag we are avid lovers of all things coffee so naturally we have paired with our friends at Kokako, the Grey Lynn, Auckland based specialty coffee roasters (and café) to give you the low down on their limited edition Purosa Estate coffee!

How limited is limited edition? Only 6 sacks of this nose tingling, mind awakening, soul warming goodness is available.

Where have they stumbled across this specialty coffee? In the Highlands of Papua New Guinea in the Purosa region. Purosa is a thriving community and is part of the Highlands Organic Agriculture Cooperative (HOAC) where Kokako already source coffee for some of their other blends. Normally the coffee harvested by the Cooperative farms is mixed, graded and sold together, so the coffee is a balance of the whole region.

So what’s the buzz about their new single origin coffee? It comes from just one farm in that region, Purosa Estate – owned by Farmer James ‘Papa’ Kinne. James has hosted the Kokako team on one of their trips and in return for his hospitality, they have taught him how to roast and cup his own coffee, and differentiate between the different flavour profiles. Surprisingly, many coffee farmers do not often get the chance to try their own coffee!

For Kokako this is a chance to showcase a truly specialty coffee and the chance to tell the story of a respected leader in the Papua New Guinea coffee industry. Kokako takes great pride in connecting people with these coffee farmers, and we are thrilled to be able to help spread the word to our caffeine inclined foodies!

Where can you find yourself some of this brew-tiful coffee? Head to our Instagram @myfoodbagnz on the 23rd of July for a giveaway and the chance to win yourself some, or if you aren’t feeling so lucky and would rather not leave it up to the coffee gods, you can check out kokako.co.nz to purchase online, or to find selected retailers.
